Dear Trick or Treat author...

Dear Trick or Treat author/artist,

Thanks so much for writing/arting for me! I’m pretty easy to please. My letters tend to be on the longish side, but I promise that’s not because I’m fussy – it’s just because I really like letter-writing. The prompts and such are just guidelines, so please don’t feel bound to them. There are all sorts of amazing ideas out there that I would never think to prompt. I'm excited to see what you come up with!

FYI I'm [archiveofourown.org profile] isquinnabel at AO3.

I've split the letter into three sections: General likes and DNWs, fandom-specific prompts, and crossover prompts. If crossovers aren't your thing, just ignore that section!

General Info

General Likes
-- I am equally happy to get tricks or treats.
-- I love plotty fics, and I also love fics that just paint a snapshot of a particular moment. And everything in between.
-- I love fics that explore individual characters, the kind of person they are, seeing how they react to new situations, etc. Plot driven fic and character driven fic are equally good.
-- I love fics that get into worldbuilding.
-- I love crossovers.
-- I love AUs, both canon divergent AUs and complete change of setting AUs (for example, I am always always up for a Hunger Games Setting AU [fyi character death is totally fine in a Hunger Games AU]).
-- Putting any sort of magic twist on non-magical canons is always welcome.
-- I also love straight-up canon compliant fic.
-- For ships, I like kissing, adorable fluffy moments, banding together against external problems/having each other's back, casual intimacy, banter, jokes/fun times, bittersweet moments, hurt/comfort.
-- I really love gen relationships (friendships, families, found families, teams, etc). I like a lot of the same things I mentioned above, e.g. hurt/comfort, having each other's backs, banter, bittersweet moments, and so on.

General DNWs
-- Explicit sex. I'm fine with sex happening, but stick to a level of detail that matches the canon you're writing. If in doubt, a fade to black is fine.
-- Excessive gore/torture. I'm totally fine with violence, as long as gore isn't described in minute detail.
-- Humiliation/embarrassment.

Likes for treats
-- I love friendships of all flavours (e.g. lifelong best friends, belligerent/reluctant friendships, and everything in between), family dynamics of all kinds, found families, etc. I basically am just really into people who care about each other, have fun with each other, band together when bad things happen, and just generally love each other.
-- Hurt/comfort, in both romantic and platonic relationships.

Likes for tricks
-- I don’t know where to begin, there are so many things I love! Haunted houses, ghosts, possessed dolls, living paintings, living shadows… anything creepy like that is definitely my jam.
-- I’m fine with violence, but I also like psychological horror.
-- AU scenarios, especially ones that move canons set squarely in the “real world” to completely different settings (e.g. Friends apocalyptic AU? YES! Gilmore Girls demon-hunter AU? YES!)

Fandom Specific Info & Prompts

Candle Cove – Any (Fic or art) (Link to canon)
It’s hard to know where to begin with prompting. Canon is so brief and there are so many ways you could explore what we haven’t seen! What’s the link between the Candle Cove world and our world? Who exactly is Janice? Was she originally a viewer of the show? Is the Skin-Taker actually targeting viewers? Who’s behind the show? Maybe something from an original character's POV, of kids watching the show?

I would also really enjoy art for this fandom. I’ve always found it really hard to visualize these characters, so I’d love to see your take on what they look like, in whatever art style you’re most comfortable with. Or maybe a picture of kids lounging in front of the TV and enjoying and/or being terrified by the show?

Chronicles of Narnia – The Lady of the Green Kirtle, Lucy Pevensie, Uncle Andrew (Fic)
The Lady of the Green Kirtle has always really fascinated me. Who is she? Where did she come from? Is she from a whole other world or is she from Narnia? What are the similarities and differences between her and Jadis, in terms of origin story or goals or personality?

For Uncle Andrew, I'd love to read something about how he learnt magic, or how he went about investigating the content of his box. The Magician's Nephew alludes to some pretty dark stuff, and I'd love to see that explored further.

For Lucy, I'd be happy to have fic on her own or as part of a larger ensemble (an ensemble fic wouldn't need to have sole focus on Lucy). I'm happy for both fic set in Narnia or fic set in England (at boarding school, maybe? Her first term of school was literally immediately after returning from a trip to Narnia, which could have been either really jarring or really comforting). I love Voyage of the Dawn Treader, something set in that era would be awesome -- I love all the characters in that book, seeing any of them would be great. Maybe some more detail about the spells she sees in the magician's book? Any other era in Narnian history would be great too -- maybe an adventure during the Golden Age, or a legend about Golden Age adventures circulating via whispers during Miraz's reign? If it helps, I love that she's a kickass archer.

I don't ship anything in Narnia books, but I love the friendship and family dynamics, and the world as a whole.

Friends – Any (Fic)
I love these characters. I love how much they care about each other, the dynamics they all have with each other, their banter, and so on. I love all the different possible combinations they could be hanging out in, or I'd also be something just focussing on one character. Ship-wise, I'm into Chandler/Monica. I'd be happy to read about any point in their relationship, but I have a particular soft spot for that point where they were hiding their relationship from everyone.

I’d be equally happy to read about something silly and sitcommy, or something darker. E.g. maybe an escalating prank war, including trying to scare each other? One of Ross's museum artefacts being alive and/or being possessed, in either a fun way or a creepy way (maybe Phoebe could be of some help in this situation)? Maybe someone witnesses something terrible while spying on Ugly Naked Guy?

Gilmore Girls – Emily Gilmore, Lorelai Gilmore, Rory Gilmore, Lindsay Lister (Fic)
I love the three Gilmore women, both as individuals and interacting together. I love their relationships with each other, and the ways in which they’re very similar to/different from each other and how this influences their relationships. I love Stars Hollow. A ghost story or a haunted house could be really cool (the Gilmore house? The Independence Inn or the Dragonfly? Some other building in Stars Hollow?). Ships I’m interested in are Emily/Richard, Rory/Jess (either canon era or post-canon), and Lorelai/Christopher (especially their history).

I would also really love something about Lindsay, after her divorce. I’d love to see what kind of person she became a few years on, e.g. how she grew from it, what scars she was left with and/or how she deals with them, how her life is now, is she happy, etc.

Grim Fandango – Any (Fic or art)
I'd be really happy with anything at all. There are quite a lot of characters in this tagset, and I would honestly be happy with any of them. For example, I'd love a missing scene from canon. Nick and Lola's fight? (Oh Lola :( .) Nick's POV of his final journey on the Number Nine? Something from Olivia's POV? Chepito, patiently circling the ocean, utterly unconcerned about the terrifying monsters? Glottis being adorable? An excerpt from Meche's time while lost? A nice interaction between Manny and Lola? Manny being snarky? Rubacava is my favourite setting, but I'd honestly be happy with anything.

Art for Grim Fandango would be amazing. I love the visuals of this game. I'd be happy with anything at all, but if you want something to bounce off my fic suggestions would also make me happy as art. E.g. maybe Chepito's journey under the ocean (or even through the train tunnel!), or a snapshot of Meche's lost year. Maybe Manny in his casino office, fixing the roulette tables? Glottis being joyful? If you're into any of my other fandoms, other characters drawn in a Grim Fandango style would be really cool.

Harry Potter – Charlie Weasley, Ginny Weasley, Hermione Granger, Luna Lovegood (Fic)
I'd be happy to read about any of these characters as individuals, or interacting with each other. I don't ship anyone here, but I would love family or friendship fic.

I'd love to read about Charlie and dragons! Whether it's slice of life stuff about a normal day, or some kind of adventure, or a disaster, or something terrifying. Or maybe someone in his family comes to visit him in Romania.

For Ginny, I love that she's so determined, but in a way that seems to fly under the radar due to being the little sister. playing quidditch, whether professionally or at Hogwarts. I'd love to hear about that horrible year of school during book seven, or her experience in Chamber of Secrets, or Ginny's POV of life at the Burrow (Fred and George didn't even know she'd been sneaking off with their quidditch things for years, which is pretty impressive).

For Luna, I love that she's so delightfully strange. I'd love to hear about anything from book 7 in her POV (whether at Hogwarts or in the Malfoys' dungeon). I love how the movies implied something like a friendship with the grey lady. I'd love to hear about her adventures post-series, whether you want to go with JKR's future for Luna or make up your own.

For Hermione, I love her cleverness and her strength. I'd love to read something where her muggleborn background plays a role (e.g. her relationship with her parents, or getting used to the newness of the wizarding world). Or maybe a fic about her researching something, or maybe her POV of being frozen by the basilisk with Penelope Clearwater.

Hunger Games – Coriolanus Snow’s Granddaughter (Fic)

[Cue SPOILERS for the end of the series/final movie]
I nominated Snow's granddaughter because I find her really fascinating. She would have a unique POV of life in the Capitol. I'd be really interested to read any take on her character or life at all, whether it's sometime before the 75th Games, during the war with the Districts, or after the war is over. Did she know that one last Hunger Games was originally planned, and that she would have been a contestant? Does she resent the changes made to her life and/or the death of her Grandfather (and probably other people she knows)? Does she recognise how terrible life was in the districts? Maybe you could go canon divergent AU where Coin lives and the final games happen, and she's forced to face the arena herself.
[End of spoilers]

White Collar – Elizabeth Burke, Mozzie, Neal Caffrey, Peter Burke, Sara Ellis (Fic)
Every one of these characters could conceivably come across a haunted object/artefact/artwork. What if Sara recovers a painting that won't stop staring at her? What if Elizabeth buys a painting where things keep moving? What if Neal and Moz forge a complicated sculpture, and unwittingly create something they never intended? Or, a lot of these characters end up alone in empty buildings, which could be the perfect setting for a creepy fic. Or, maybe something about Elizabeth's canonical creepy doll?

My favourite ships for this show are Peter/Elizabeth, and Neal/Sara. My favourite friendships are Peter & Neal, and Mozzie & Elizabeth. I also love ensemble fics in this canon, and feel free to include other characters from the tagset if you go this route (if you do, FYI the only character I'm not really interested in is Kate Moreau). My DNW ships for this show are Peter/Neal/El, and Peter/Neal (sorry!).

One of my favourite things about this show is just how damn much I love these characters, so I'd honestly be happy with all kinds of things. I'm happy with them interacting with each other, I'm happy with them doing something alone, I'm happy with something fun and fluffy, or something silly and ridiculous, or something creepy and unsettling, or something dangerous in a canon-compliant way.

Crossover prompts

-- Candle Cove/Friends: what if some or all of them watched it during their childhood? Would they realise in hindsight that there was something wrong?
-- Candle Cove/Narnia: What if the Dawn Treader stopped at Candle Cove?
-- Candle Cove/Gilmore Girls: What if young Rory joyfully watched Candle Cove on a regular basis, and Lorelai was increasingly unsettled?
-- Friends/White Collar: I'd really enjoy the two NYC canons combining somehow, in any way you like. Maybe Neal goes undercover at Ralph Lauren and charms the hell out of Rachel. Maybe Willie Garson's character in TOW the Girl Who Hits Joey is actually Mozzie, conning Ross's new building.
-- Grim Fandango/Anything: I'd love to see a character from any of my canons in the Land of the Dead. Maybe they're in Manny's office, on the receiving end of his travel agent spiel. Or anywhere else you think fits!
